Who we're looking for
Certified phlebotomists comfortable with mobile, in-home, and office collections.
Medical assistants with documented venipuncture experience.
Licensed RNs interested in flexible, assignment-based collection work.
Licensed LPNs with current Michigan licensure.
Experienced collectors who work independently in the field.
Prior buccal swab or chain-of-custody experience is a plus, not a requirement.
The professionals who do well in this network are dependable, professional, and compassionate with the families they meet. They stay organized, document carefully, and are comfortable working independently in the field.
Minimum qualifications
- Current certification or licensure appropriate to your professional title
- Documented venipuncture or specimen collection experience
- Valid government-issued photo identification
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Active auto insurance
- Smartphone with a camera for documentation
- Ability to pass a background screening
- Professional, dependable, and punctual conduct in the field
- Comfort working independently without on-site supervision
- Willingness to follow documented chain-of-custody procedures exactly
Serving all of Michigan
Our network spans the state, from metro Detroit and West Michigan through the Thumb, the northern Lower Peninsula, and the Upper Peninsula. Coordination runs out of our Saginaw office.
We accept applications from every region of Michigan, even if we are not actively assigning work in your area today. Applications are kept on file so we can reach out when a collection is requested near you.

No. Every opportunity offered through NorthStar Lab Services is on an independent contractor (1099) basis. Submitting an application does not create an employment relationship.
How much work will I receive?+
There is no guaranteed volume of work. Assignment frequency depends on your location, your availability, and case demand in your area.
How is compensation determined?+
Compensation is set per assignment and confirmed with you before you accept the collection. It reflects the collection type, location, and travel involved.
Do I need DNA collection experience?+
No. Documented venipuncture or specimen collection experience is required; DNA-specific experience is helpful but not required. We provide procedure documentation for the collections you accept.
What areas of Michigan do you serve?+
Our network covers Michigan statewide, including the Upper Peninsula. We accept applications from every region, even where we are not currently assigning work.
Do I choose which assignments I accept?+
Yes. Each request is offered to you, and you decide whether to accept it. Declining an assignment does not affect your standing in the network.
What happens after I apply?+
A coordinator reviews your application and credentials. If your background and service area fit current or anticipated needs, we contact you to talk through the network and next steps.
How long does the review take?+
Most applications are reviewed within five business days. Because network needs vary by region, some applications are kept on file until an opportunity opens in your area.
