Legal DNA testing questions

Is a legal DNA test admissible in a Michigan court?
Legal DNA collections are performed in person under documented chain of custody with photo-ID verification, and the analysis is performed by an AABB-accredited partner laboratory, so the report is prepared for use in legal proceedings. Acceptance of any evidence is ultimately determined by the requesting court or agency.
What do I need to bring to the appointment?
Each participant needs a valid government-issued photo ID. Minors are identified by the accompanying parent or guardian's ID plus the child's birth certificate or Social Security card when available. Bring a copy of any court order that specifies testing requirements.
Does the mother have to participate in a paternity test?
Participation by the biological mother is optional in most paternity cases, though it can be recommended depending on the circumstances. The base legal paternity test includes one alleged father and one child.
How long do legal DNA results take?
Legal results are typically available in 5–7 business days after the partner laboratory receives the specimens. Rush processing is available as an add-on at checkout.
Where does the collection happen?
Trained NorthStar personnel collect specimens in person — at your home, workplace, attorney's office, healthcare facility, correctional facility, or another approved location in Michigan. Travel fees are calculated from your address.
